What is shown here is an easy Chinese Pepper Steak recipe, which is a classic pepper steak stir fry dish made with fresh green peppers (bell peppers) and onions. When making this recipe, it is important not to overcook the beef. Cook the beef separately from the vegetables and mix them together at the end if you are unsure.

Easy Pepper Steak recipe:

Ingredients:

  • 1 pound flank steak, thinly sliced against the grain
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Shaoxing wine/rice wine
  • 1 green pepper, cut into 2-inch strips
  • 1 onion, peel the layers and cut into 2-inch strips
  • 2 cloves garlic, finely minced
  • 1 scallion, peeled and chopped into very small pieces
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons cooking oil
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

How to cook pepper steak:

Combine the beef, 1 tablespoon soy sauce, and 1 tablespoon wine in a bowl and let marinate for 20 minutes. Heat the oil in a wok until slightly smoking. Add the beef and stir-fry for 1 minute, or until the redness is gone. Add the green peppers, onion, 1 tablespoon soy sauce, and stir-fry until the vegetables become soft. Add garlic, scallion, and salt and black pepper to taste. Stir-fry until the beef is thoroughly cooked. Serve with rice.
