Fad Diets: How to Spot ‘Em

I have the uncanny ability to spot fad diets within about a minute of first hearing about them. I do it using my years of experience with health and nutrition, and a little thing called common sense (which I continually realize isn’t all that common). Would you like to be able to spot fad diets too? Then read on:

Beware overly strict diets. Anything that tells you to ONLY eat a certain food or type of food, or completely give up a certain food group is not only a fad diet, but dangerous as well. Even vegans know to get their daily protein requirements from sources other than meat, dairy or eggs. There are those who suddenly go vegan without learning the basics. A few weeks later and they’re in the hospital suffering from malnutrition. Unless you have a food allergy or specific medical condition, you should never completely give up any food groups, except processed junk food. I promote the traditional Asian diet, a plant-based low calorie diet, but even I don’t tell you to completely give up meats, fats, and oils. This is the mark of someone who truly cares about your health instead of trying to make money off your pain.

If it sounds too good to be true, it’s probably a fad diet. When you hear things like the chocolate diet and the cookie diet, your mind should immediately jump to “fad diet,” yet people still believe in these for some reason (see my comment above about common sense), and have to find out the truth the hard way. Anyone promoting these diets should be backed away from with one hand on your wallet.

Your PhD means nothing to me. I’ve seen enough “Drs” and “PhDs” with overly straight and white teeth in my life to know that many of them don’t know what they’re talking about. Few people ever bother to verify whether they even have the degree. The truth is, some of them don’t even deserve a bachelor’s degree in health and nutrition. Always look at the diet itself, not the person who created it or the people promoting it.

Tired of fad diets? For an all-natural lifestyle and way of eating, switch to the Traditional Asian Diet. My ebook, How to Lose Weight with the Asian Diet, will tell you all you need to know.
