How to Make Beef and Broccoli

Beef and broccoli go together in Chinese cooking like peanut butter and jelly in western cuisine. The following easy Beef and Broccoli recipe is a classic stir fry dish and is well-suited for beginner cooks new to Chinese cooking because of its simplicity. If you are concerned about weight loss or high cholesterol, remember to use no more than 4 ounces of LEAN beef, and to trim off the fat.

Beef with Broccoli Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 4 ounces lean beef meat, thinly sliced against the grain
  • 1 tablespoon dry sherry/dry white wine
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons oil
  • 1 broccoli, cut into florets
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • Salt to taste

Directions:

Combine the beef with the wine and 1 tablespoon soy sauce, and let marinate for 20 minutes. Heat up a wok with 1 tablespoon oil. Add the garlic and stir-fry for 15 seconds, then add the beef and stir-fry for 1 minute or until the redness is gone, then transfer it to a dish. Add the remaining oil to the wok and heat it up. Add the broccoli and stir-fry until it becomes slightly soft, then return the beef to the wok. Add 1 tablespoon soy sauce, and continue to stir-fry until the beef and broccoli are cooked through, add salt to taste, and serve with rice.
